Application of Starters for Three-Phase Slip Ring Motors
The excellent properties of slip ring motors make them partivularly suitable for special applications. Special importance has the proportionality of the intensity of current to the released torque which comes close to the breakdown torque. For starting of these motors we offer 2 basic types of starters for specific ratings:
- Liquid rotor starter for three-phase slip ring motors: motor rating 200kW approx. 10MW
- Drum starter for three-phase slip ring motors: motor rating 59kW-410kW
A suitable, economical and safe solution can be offerd for other rating ranges and special operating conditions thanks to the experience gained in many years.
Application Range of Starters for Three-Phase Slip Ring Motors
Starters, made in Meerrane, are very verastile. Mainly these starters used for applications in the cement indurstry, in water süpply and distribution, in open pit mining, in iron and steel production etc. To attain optimum technical and economical solutions, calculations and designs are made to find the right starter for the respective application on the basis of important operating and environmental data.
Construction of Three-Phase Liquid Rotor Starters
Depending on the starting and positioning requirements, three-phase liquid starters ane made with:
- Smooth sheet steel containers
- Radiator containers
- Radiator containers and additional fans
- Smooth sheet steel containers and built-in cooling coil
- Smooth sheet steel containers, separate hiat excanger and recirculating pump
All types anre also available in tandem construction.

The rotor cables of the slip ring motor are connected as follows:
